Microsoft is to launch a new table computer later this year. Microsoft has revealed that it is to unveil a new tablet to the world this year. The Surface device will be powered by Microsoft Windows 8 operating system.
Surface will be 9.3mm thick and weigh under 680 grams. The 27cm screen will be larger than Apple’s iPad by two centimetres. Surface will have a 16:9 aspect ratio – suitable for watching videos in widescreen.
The device will be available for purchase from Microsoft stores and online initially. It will be an entertainment device “without compromising the productivity that PCs are uniquely known for”, said Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. The Surface is a PC, the Surface is a tablet, and the Surface is something new that we think people will absolutely love, explained Ballmer.
It is expected that the product will come with a competitive price tag – similar to the price of the Apple iPad. The company will also release a thicker version after three months.
