Irish supermarket chain Superquinn, now part of the Musgrave Group, has announced a new Fresh Price Cuts campaign across all of its stores.

Long-term price cuts of up to 40 per cent have been introduced to more than 200 fresh food items in the areas of bakery, meat, cheese, fruit and vegetables and cheese at Superquinn. Speaking on the company’s latest price intelligence strategy, Eoin McCormack, trading and marketing director at Superquinn said that the retailer knows that its customers need “better value now more than ever”; that is what Fresh Price Cuts is all about, he explained.

In the bakery department, the price of a French stick has been reduced from €1.99 to €1.49. Superquinn’s brown soda bread now costs €1.89; it was previously offered for €2.09. Four scones are reduced from €2.40 to €1.89. On the meat counter, the retailer’s Irish unsmoked ham fillet offers a saving of €6.01, down from €14.00 to €7.99 for 1.5kg (€5.32 per kg). Superquinn’s Irish unsmoked bacon eye loin joint now costs €7.99 (750kg) – down from €10.00.

In the retailer’s fruit and vegetables category, a bag of carrots (500g) are down from €1 to 79 cents. A bag of seven Gala apples is reduced by 39 cents to €2. Shoppers can save 59 cents on iceberg lettuce (90 cents).

The price of Superquinn’s creamy brie has been cut by €2 per kg; it now costs €15 per kg. Wensleydale with cranberries is also now €2 less per kg at €22. “This is a commitment to long-term price reductions on the fresh food our customers love while maintaining our famous quality and taste,” said McCormack. The news comes as supermarkets engage in the practice of competitor price monitoring to grow sales and profit margins. Click here to view the full list of price cuts at Superquinn.
