Competitor Monitoring: Debenhams’ New German eCommerce Site

The Debenhams group has launched its first foreign language eCommerce site in Germany.
Department store chain Debenhams has launched a new German website,, the first foreign language website for a UK department store. Germany is the second largest eCommerce market in Europe after the UK.

The mix of famous British designers and heritage products is expected to “attract thousands of new customers” to, said Simon Forster, online director at Debenhams. Germany has “consistently been one of our top performing countries online” with German shoppers now having their “own bespoke website”, he explained.

The launch of would enable German shoppers easier access to unique British design-led products, boosting exports with Europe’s largest economy, said trade and investment minister Lord Green.

Debenhams has 164 stores in Britain and Ireland and a Magasin du Nord chain in Denmark. The group will expand its operations to deliver to a 34 further countries internationally, which will bring the total number to 41. Customers can also carry out competitor price monitoring online to see how the fashion retailer fares on price; such retail price intelligence empowers shoppers to get the best value for money. International customers can expect to have their online purchases delivered within five to 14 working days.
