Global Internet retail sales topped $1 trillion for the first time in 2012, according to a new report by market research firm eMarketer. The United States held the No. 1 position for online sales with China also having advanced rapidly in this area of retailing.
eCommerce sales increased by 21.2 per cent to more than $1 trillion for the year, and are expected to rise by another 18.3 per cent by the end of 2013, revealed the report. North America generated $364 billion in sales in 2012, an increase of 13.9 per cent on the previous year. Looking ahead, the Asia-Pacific market is expected to top the panel in 2013 with 30 per cent growth to $433 billion, according to eMarketer.
