Department store group John Lewis has appointed Mark Lewis, the current CEO of Collect+, as its first online director. Collect+, the convenience store-based delivery network, allows retailers to use its network of 4,500 shops as collection points for online deliveries.
Prior to joining Collect+, the experienced eCommerce professional spent six years at eBay, where he held the positions of UK managing director and European marketplaces director. He oversaw the expansion of the Collect+ delivery network to more than 5,000 stores. Lewis also worked at Boston Consulting Group, where he joined the group’s retail and consumer team. As well as being responsible for the development of the group’s Internet business, Lewis will manage the omnichannel development team.
Speaking on the new appointment, Andy Street, managing director at John Lewis, said, ”“He brings insight and experience of the retail sector, and will be driving further innovation across both our website and omnichannel offer.” “In the rapidly changing retail environment, I believe the John Lewis proposition and partnership model provide genuine and enduring advantages, and I look forward to playing a part in writing the next chapter of the business,” said Lewis.
The multichannel retailer was one of the first UK-based operators to offer ‘Click and Collect’ services, allowing shoppers to place their orders online and then pick up their John Lewis purchases from Waitrose outlets along with their weekly supermarket shopping. The service has helped drive the company’s substantial growth in online retailing. Analysts predict that Lewis will be instrumental in making web-based shopping even more convenient for John Lewis customers. Lewis will join the company on March 4. He will also join the John Lewis Management Board.
