Online retailing giant Amazon has launched an online premium fashion store in an effort to rival leading etailers such as ASOS and Net-A-Porter.
Located at amazon.co.uk/premium, the new Amazon store features sought-after ladies clothing brands e.g. Black Orchard, Hudson, Joseph, Pringle, 7 for all Mankind; mens’ premium brands include, among others, Barbour, Gant, Kasson, Lyle and Scott, and Penfield.
“More and more customers are discovering the benefits of shopping for clothing online,” said Christopher North, the managing director of Amazon’s UK store, speaking to the Telegraph newspaper. “We are rapidly expanding our fashion offering with a raft of aspirational brands and on-trend products,” he added.
The store launch coincided with ‘Mega Monday‘, the first Monday in December, when shoppers go on an online shopping spree, triggered by the November payday and the start of the Christmas shopping season for many.
Consumers are also using the Internet to carry out competitor price monitoring on Christmas grocery items and gifts for family and friends; armed with this retail price intelligence, shoppers are becoming very price-savvy and this is driving retailers to update product pricing on a daily basis in the run-up to Christmas.
