Technology has once again influenced the toy sector’s recommendations for top toys this festive season with the release of the Toy Retailers Association’s annual Dream Toys listing.

Parents will need to dig deep this Christmas if choosing anything from the top 13 recommended toys list with prices ranging from £22.99 to £89.99.

The most competitively priced item on the list is a Barbie called Monster High Ghouls Rule Dolls coming with a recommended price of £22.99. The LeapPad2 tablet computer (£89.99) is the most expensive item on this year’s report. Batteries or a charger is required with the majority of the items tipped for strong sales performance this year.

A dancing mat that connects to a music player, a hand-held tablet device, Nerf guns firing foam darts and an updated version of the Cabbage Patch Kids doll are just some of the 13 predicted products that are recommended for Christmas.

Gary Grant, chairman of the Dream Toys selection panel, says that technology continues to be woven into toys to add extra dimensions to the play experience whether it is through the “use of apps, interactivity, touch screens or integrated multi-functions such as e-readers and cameras”.

With the trend in Internet shopping showing no sign of abating, record numbers of parents are expected to go online this year to carry out competitor monitoring on toy prices. Price-savvy consumers can then use this retail intelligence to ensure they are getting the best deal to suit their budgets.
