Competitior Monitoring: Amazon To Open Digital Innovation Hub In London

Internet retailing giant Amazon has announced plans to open a new development centre in London.

Amazon is to open a London hub for software development engineers and graphic designers to build next-generation televisions and film services for a range of digital services. Amazon will be based on the eighth floor of the Glasshouse Yard in the centre of London.

Amazon’s Paula Byrne said that London is a hotbed of tech talent and testament to that fact is Amazon choosing the capital as the location for the “new global digital media development centre”. Innovation is part of the Amazon DNA, she said, with the company creating a “British centre of excellence” to design and develop the next generation of TV and film services for a wide range of digital devices.

As he prepares to host the 2012 Olympic Games, Mayor of London Boris Johnson said he was thrilled to welcome Amazon’s fantastic new international digital centre to London. “For this wildly successful and dynamic company to choose our city to site such an important facility is a splendid feather in our cap.”

The news comes as we hear of more and more consumers going online to carry out competitor price monitoring: price-savvy shoppers are now making informed purchasing decisions, thanks to the availability of online retail price intelligence.
