Competitior Monitoring: Amazon’s Plans To Rival Apple’s iTunes With New Cloud Music Service ‎

Written by Profitero | Jun 18, 2012 1:00:00 AM

Amazon’s new music service will be similar to Apple’s iTunes offering where a number of devices have access to a stored collection of data. It is understood that Amazon will offer digital content with higher margins e.g. music, books, films.

Amazon executives are believed to be close to signing license agreements with music studios to cover the company’s cloud music service. To date, Amazon has reached agreements with Universal Music Group, EMI and Sony Music Entertainment. It is understood that the online retailer is in the later stages of talks with the other Warner Music Group.

Back in March 2011, Amazon launched a cloud music service through arrangements with a number of record companies. However, users had to upload music to Amazon’s servers – a lengthy process.

Amazon will launch its new cloud music service in the US in the first week of July. This will be followed by a European launch.
