Competitor Monitoring: Eason Launches Virtual Shopping Wall At Dublin’s Connolly Station

Irish bookseller Eason has launched a virtual store at Dublin’s Connolly Station.

The new Virtual Book Shop allows commuters to order bestselling titles from Eason by smartphone. Customers can scan a QR code on the Eason shopping wall in Connolly Station to purchase the book via their mobile device. The item will then be delivered to the shopper’s address a few days later.

David Field, head of marketing and retail development at Eason, said that while the traditional physical store is still very much at the heart of Eason, the company recognises the need to further develop its online shopping experience. The retailer created a concept that is “not only innovative and a first to the Irish market but that very much demonstrates that we are a contemporary multichannel retailer”, said Field.

The virtual shopping wall will be available at Connolly Station until Christmas with plans to roll out shopping walls to other locations throughout Ireland.
